Dr. James Giraldi - Optometrist
Dr. James Giraldi was born Chicago, IL but moved to California when he was 8 years old and has been enjoying the beautiful weather and views ever since. What made you go into optometry? I was always interested in medicine as a child. When I got a little bit older, I had a friend who was an optometrist and after discussing the field with him I became interested in optometry and haven’t looked back since. I have been incredibly happy in my profession. What are some of the things that make you happy when practicing optometry? I really enjoy being able to meet and talk with people. It is an amazing feeling being the one to help them see better and function better every day. What distinguishes you from other optometrists in the area? I like to take more time with patients and that seems to be the opposite of the way a lot of optometrists work now. They seem to really appreciate and like that I take my time with them to make sure I answer all their questions. What are the areas do you specialize in? I specialize in glasses and contact lenses – specifically soft lenses and gas permeable lenses, as well toric lenses for patients with astigmatism. What are your hobbies? In my younger days I really enjoyed playing tennis. What made you move Giraldi Optometry into Khanna Vision Institute and do you think it is more beneficial for the patients? I find that it is trending more and more for small practice doctors to move into corporations. I like that Dr Khanna shows interest in his patients. I think it is a great practice when the doctors show interest in the people themselves, instead of just checking the boxes to complete the exam and get the patients out the door. By being a part of Khanna Vision Institute the patients can get everything from eye exams to Lasik eye surgery all in one office. Have you found your patients happiness has increased since your move into Khanna Vision Institute? Yes, very much so.

Since 1979 my office has been located in a professional medical setting. Patients of all ages are seen, when necessary, in conjunction with other health care professionals. This has provided me extensive experience in: Monitoring the vision health of patients with a variety of systemic diseases, including: diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, HIV / AIDS, lupus and other autoimmune diseases. External and Internal examination - to include direct and/or indirect ophthalmoscopy. Neurological integrity - pupillary reflexes and extraocular muscle assessment. Biomicroscopy Automated Visual Fields Tonometry / pachemetry / HRT Anterior and Posterior ocular photography Subjective refraction and accommodative function Treatment of Ocular Disease, including all red eyes and painful eyes. Treatment and monitoring of glaucoma.
Ted Severns - Optician
Ted is a former high school and college baseball player and Assistant Coach. One of Ted’s passions has always been photography, which would lead him to his care in the optical field.
In 1991, he went to school at the Pearle Vision Academy of Optics, where he learned about working in an optical lab and grinding eyeglass lenses. Soon after, he started working at the Optical Lab of Pearle Vision Express, where he was cross trained on the retail side of optical work. This started him on the road to be an Optician.
In 1992 he started working as an Optician in a private practice in Westlake Village and has been in Westlake Village ever since.
He moved to Khanna Vision Institute in 2019 and expanded his horizons in all aspects of Vision and Eye Healthcare. Ted’s goal has always been to help the patient to the best of his abilities with his 30 plus years of experience. He believes that there is nothing better than the wonderful world of sight.
Ted lives in Thousand Oaks and some of his hobbies are of photography, golf, camping and flying radio control airplanes.
